Twin Sisters from the Womb
Chapter One
The wind was howling something fierce outside on March 9th, 1941, as Mother, Kathleen Richardson, lay in bed having birth pangs. The rain was pelting, the shutters were clapping, and the ice on the ground was 2 inches thick. Doctor Little was frantically working to deliver two babies from one Mother. Although the contractions were continuous, all he and the mother could do was wait. Finally, the first baby was born. She was born half past the evening hour and was absolutely pink, plush, and pretty as a newborn calf. The second baby wasted no time in making her appearance. Dr. Little had only an instant with the first child. The second was also a girl and came forth as fast as the first one. She, too, was as pink and plush as her sister. He held her in his gentle hands. Both girls were quiet and composed; their little eyes twinkled in the bright light of the room as they seemed to wonder where they were and what was going on. They had been very warm and so comfortable in their little cocoon of safety in their mother’s belly. They had not wanted to leave that place, but their father had said they must. And if anything, these two girls obeyed their father. So, into this world, they were born. Each seemingly was wondering what life as a human held in store for them. Dr. Little tied and cut their umbilical cords and placed them in their mother’s arms. She marveled at what she had done. Here were her two beautiful daughters, healthy and bright as the morning star. She examined every part of their new fresh, and soft little bodies and finally said, “They are perfect.” Mother nestled one in each arm as she held them to her breast, and they suckled their first mother’s milk to their heart’s content. Father looked down from heaven, and He was very proud.
Mother said as she kissed them over and over, “They taste like candy canes. I will name one Candy and the other Kannie.”
Kathleen gave thanks to God, as her husband had been tragically killed in an auto accident a few months earlier. He was not able to see his girls, but as Kathleen prayed, she asked God to allow him to see them. She loved him so much, and she felt a sense of relief that the girls had been born healthy and complete. She said, “Thank you, Father,” and dedicated the girls to Him. The next day Mother cradled them, fed them, changed their nappies, and kept them warm and protected. Father watched and approved. Days became weeks, weeks became months, and months became a year. Candy and Kannie are now one year old. Mother had a very special birthday for them. The girls received presents from family and special friends.

The years seemed to pass quickly; for now, the baby girls had become young five-year-old children. They loved to play together and to learn. The mother spent a lot of time reading to them as well as teaching them their ABCs and numbers. Both girls were very intelligent. They had started to talk by the age of one year and, by their current age, they could speak their native English language fluently. Mother was also teaching them other languages, such as Spanish, and French, thinking it would be good for the girls to learn as there are 350 different languages spoken in homes throughout the United States. The girls easily caught onto their numbers, so they were very good at basic math problems. She also exposed them to a variety of sports, music, and thespian activities. The girls enjoyed just about all sports, especially softball; they were good players and enjoyed the game.
Mother bought her girls’ musical instruments. For Candy, she bought a violin and a guitar for Kannie. She drove them to music practice twice a week. The girls learned quickly and became quite proficient for their age. Once a week, the family would gather so the girls would show their mother what they had learned. They especially enjoyed playing for their father. Each night before going to bed, the girls would sit on their beds and talk to Him. From the beginning, He talked to them in their hearts. He told them how much He loved them and that He would always be there for them.
Candy and Kannie graduated from kindergarten with honors and went on to grade school, where they blended in very well. They were well-liked and were quick to make special friends. They graduated from grade school with honors and were also the first female twins to graduate from City View Elementary School.
